The Soviet Union (Russian: Советский Союз, tr. Sovetsky Soyuz), officially the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR or U.S.S.R.; Russian: Сою́з Сове́тских Социалисти́ческих Респу́блик, tr.
